In cupola we cant smelt ore because lining won't withstand smelting temperatures, slag wont flow due to low temperature and improper basicity, coke rate in general blast furnace ranges from 530 to 580 kg/ thm. in cupola i guess its around 80 kg which is sufficient only for meting the charge, if we charge higher rates of coke like in blast furnace lining cant withstand even for hours.
